Girls Weekend: Days 2 and 3

I’m a little behind in finishing up my posts from my girls weekend in South Carolina, but I still wanted to share the rest of my trip. As I mentioned before, we were staying at the Omni Hilton Head Oceanfront Resort. Even though we had a pretty late night on Friday, we decided that we would try to get up early to catch the sunrise over the ocean. I am SO glad we made this happen. It was a short walk from our room to the resorts walkway to the beach. It was still dark and pretty chilly when we got on to the beach but a few minutes after we arrived the first signs of color started appearing on the horizon.

We spent a little over an hour walking along the water before heading back up to our room. When we got back we had this waiting for us from the hotel! I was also pleasantly surprised when I was able to see the view we had from our balcony in the daylight.

We hung out in the room for a bit before heading to our appointments at the spa. We both enjoyed massages and facials. By the time we were finished at the spa it was mid day and we were ready for lunch. We had decided that we were going to make our way to the south end of the island for the afternoon. We headed to Harbour Town and grabbed lunch at the Harbour Town Bakery. After lunch we spent some time walking around all of the shops and made our way to the lighthouse. While the lighthouse wasn’t quite what we were expecting, it did have some interesting history about Hilton Head Island on the way up and some great views from the top.

Later in the afternoon we decided it was time to do a little shopping and made our way a few minutes off of the island to Bluffton and spent a few hours at the outlets. Before we knew it, it was getting a little late and we figured we should probably find some food. Dinner turned into quite the adventure with some wrong directions (thanks Siri) and restaurants that no longer existed. After probably an hour of driving around we settled on driving back to the south end to grab dinner at the Salty Dog Café. Everyone that I had talked to leading up to this trip had said this restaurant was an absolute must do.

Let me tell you, it did not disappoint! I can’t say enough good things about this restaurant. We showed up at 8:50, not realizing that they would be closing at 9. The manager that was working happily sat us and was more than gracious. We had pina coladas that were to die for and a huge dinner that consisted of crab legs, steamed veggies and au gratin potatoes.

On Sunday morning we drove the 45 minutes to Savannah. It was too close to not drive and check it out. We wanted to spend our afternoon at the ocean so we decided that we would take a trolley tour so that we could see as much of Savannah as possible. I swear, after this visit I’m more than willing to move south! Everything is so gorgeous! We had chosen Oglethorpe Trolley Tours the night before and arrived about 10 minutes before the tour left. Our tour lasted about two hours and detailed the history of Savannah and told stories about its founders.

Our afternoon was spent at Coligny Beach Park. We really enjoyed the set up of this area- there was a boardwalk down to the beach where there were volleyball courts set up. The water was still surprisingly warm considering it was the middle of November. The tide was out so we were able to walk out quite a ways. Before we hit the beach we explored the shops and had the most delicious drink from the Carolina Tasting Room. This was a pina colada wine smoothie.

We spent our last evening at the resort. The pool area was quiet so we took advantage and sat in the hot tub for a while, then just walked around the rest of the property. This resort was wonderful to stay at. There was a lot of attention to detail to make sure that our stay was as enjoyable as possible. We finished off the night with dinner at XO again before heading upstairs to pack. We had a two hour drive to the airport in the morning and an early flight so we were out the door before 5 am.

I had a very long day of travel and didn’t get home until nearly 2:30am. Even though the trip was so much fun and very relaxing I was more than ready to get home and see my babies!
