2nd Annual Lady Pirate Scuttle 5K Recap

Good Morning everyone and welcome back to Tale of 2 Halfs. Today we will be recapping last weekends race and possibly taking a look back at this time last year, as we look ahead to Buffalo Marathon weekend in a week and a half.

On Saturday we participated in the 2nd Annual Lady Pirate Scuttle 5K hosted by the Massena Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxillary. We participated in the inaugural race last year as well and we were happy to go back and support a good cause.

Jennifer was recovering from her calf injury the week earlier and was just there for the fun of it. Although the field was small, the race was intended as a tune-up and test for my (Travis) conditioning as I have not had the chance to run any 5k’s so far this season.

Start of Pirate

The course was an out-and-back near the St. Lawrence River and was really flat. The first half was along a closed roadway and the second half was on a paved trail that runs along the river. I ended up winning the race with small field and Jen was happy with her time considering her recent injury. It is always nice to get away from the kids for a short while and get to spend some alone time with the better half doing something we both enjoy.

We are both eagerly awaiting the arrival of Buffalo Marathon weekend and our trip to Buffalo. Jen’s mom will be flying into town for the week to watch our kids while we run Buffalo and also spend some quality time with the family and of course – help with our Piece by Piece 5K on June 4th.

We thought it would be fun to take a look back at last years race in Buffalo as we look ahead to this years. Enjoy!
